Sir,
Just finished listening to this unforgettable, rich talk. I’m still wandering somewhere in the 1800s America speechless and in awe of the thinkers and poets who shaped that age.
“తీగ పట్టుకుని తెలుసుకుంటూ వెళ్ళిన విషయాలు” అన్నారు. ఆ తీగ వెంట మీతో పాటు మమ్మల్నీ రెండు శతాబ్దాల క్రితం కాలానికి తీసుకెళ్ళి, అప్పటి నుంచీ అమెరికా పుట్టి పెరిగిన రాజకీయ , సాంస్కృతిక వాతావరణం కళ్లకు కట్టినట్టు చూపించారు.
America’s struggle for independence and the writing of the Declaration of Independence ఒక “ ఉజ్వల ఘట్టం “ అన్నారు and that it marked the transformation of modern political history around the world. This was a moment of revelation for me, sir! Never thought about it.
When you talked about the great thinkers of the time and how America was shaped by transcendentalist thought and the ideals they gathered from all the best civilizations (Indian, Chinese, German, Buddhism) around the world to build an aspirational country, it really felt so inspiring!
Only to quickly come to the hard reality realizing this is not the America they had dreamed of!!
You talked about how Peabody sisters’ works influenced 19th century American romanticism and influenced Emerson and transcendentalist movement!! How exciting those times must have been!!
You said “What Plato is to Greece, Immanuel Kant to Germany, and any Rushi/acharya to India, that’s what Emerson is to America.” That’s a great statement.
Except for his name, I knew nothing about him. Embarrassing!! Thank you for introducing Emerson through this talk. I’ll definitely try to read the two essays you mentioned.
