మహాబలిపురం తీరదేవాలయం

నా నాలుగవ కవితాసంపుటి ‘కోకిల ప్రవేశించే కాలం'(2009) నుంచి కూడా కొన్ని కవితలు ఇంగ్లిషులోకి అనువదించాలనుకుంటున్నాను. అందులో మొదటిగా ఈ కవిత.

మహాబలిపురం తీరదేవాలయం

విరామం లేని సాగరనేపథ్యం పైన
ఒకడొక పద్యం నిర్మించి వెళ్ళిపోయాడు.
మాట పైన మాటను పొదిగినట్టుగా రాయి పైన రాయి,
భాషలో భావాన్ని యిమిడ్చినట్లుగా శిలపై చిత్రం.

ఎందరో ప్రతి సాయంత్రం
అక్కడికి వెళ్ళివస్తుంటారు,
ఆ పద్యం వారికి వినిపిస్తూనే వుంటుంది.
బోధపరుచుకునేవారేరీ?

అక్కడ కొన్ని గవ్వలు
కిరాయి గుర్రాలు
ఈతగాళ్ళు
ఈదులాడే ప్రేమికులు
శిలగా మారిన ఒక కవి,
కరిగి ప్రవహించే అతని పద్యం.

నేను కూడా ఒక సాయంకాలం
అక్కడికి వెళ్ళివచ్చాను.
యిక ఆ పద్యం సుగంధం
నన్ను యీ జన్మకి వీడదు.

Mahabalipuram

Against the backdrop of restless waves
Somebody built a poem and left.
An architecture of stone
where words are placed upon
Words-
Feelings painted in the language of dreams.

Every evening
So many come and go.
The poem roars aloud,
But who can grasp its meaning?

On the beach, a few shells,
Horses for hire, swimmers,
And lovers immersed in each other.
On the beach, the poet who turned to stone-
And his poem that melts and flows.

I too visited the place
One evening.
The fragrance of that poem
Will not fade away all my life.
