వాల్ట్ విట్మన్ రాసిన Song of Myself (1855) ను నేను ‘ఆత్మోత్సవ గీతం’ (2022) పేరిట అనువదించాను. కిందటి వారం నుండి ఆ పుస్తకం పైన ప్రసంగాలు మొదలుపెట్టాను. కిందటి వారం ఆ పుస్తకం వెనక ఉన్న నేపథ్యం, ముఖ్యంగా ఎమర్సన్ దర్శనం గురించి వివరించాను. ఈ రోజు ఆ పుస్తకంలోని కొన్ని సర్గల్ని పరిచయం చేసాను. ఆ ప్రసంగం ఇక్కడ వినవచ్చు. ఫేస్ బుక్కు లైవులో సాంకేతిక సమస్య వల్ల రెండు భాగాలుగా ప్రసంగం నడిచింది. ఆ రెండింటినీ ఒకే భాగంగా మీకు అందించడం కోసం వీడియో ఫైలుగా కాక, ఆడియో ఫైలుగా అందిస్తున్నాను. ఆ ప్రసంగం ఇక్కడ వినవచ్చు.

Sir, after your intro talk last week, I wanted to know more about Emerson. On your suggestion, I started with his essay “The Poet.” Essay చదివి, Cliff Notes సాయంతో summary కూడా చదివి అర్థం చేసుకున్నాననుకుని (😬) Whitman’s Song of Myself series లో ఈ వారం talk విన్నాను.
What a beautiful soul Emerson was! His vision for a new American poet, “the complete man” was really big. ఆయన దర్శించిన కవిగా Whitman తనని తాను మలుచుకోవడం!! I am fascinated by great poets and their inspiration.
Whitman Leaves of Grass ని తాను ఆరాధించే Emerson కి పంపినప్పుడు, Emerson Whitman కి రాసిన లేఖ నుండి మీరు కొంత చదివి వినిపించారు.
“Great power makes us happy”
“Large perception only can inspire”
“It has the best merits namely of fortifying and encouraging”
show their magnificent vision. మీ మాటల్లో బృహత్ దర్శనం ఇది.
“The Poet” లో Emerson అన్నట్లు:
“For it is not meters, but a metermaking argument that makes a poem.”
Whitman తనదైన స్టైల్ ని ఎలా తయారు చేసుకున్నాడో వివరంగా చెప్పారు, సర్. 🙏🏽
You talked about గణ పద ఛందస్సు, English కవిత్వం లో accent-based prosody that European poetry was based on but Whitman found his own cadence-based meter, inspired by the Psalms in the King James Bible. Very interesting to know this, Sir!
You also explained the title “Song of Myself” and how the word ‘of’ has so many connotations and why you titled the translation “ఆత్మోత్సవ గీతం.” It makes perfect sense after your explanation, sir.
Was following along in the book as you were reading the ఆత్మోత్సవ గీతం, ఎక్కడికక్కడ మీరు explain చేస్తుంటే I am able to understand and appreciate the meaning and depth of this poem and its rhythm.

The Poet వ్యాసం పూర్తిగా చదవటం cliff నోట్స్ సాయంతో అర్థం చేసుకోవడం చాలా సంతోషం తగ్గ విషయం. ఇలానే నెమ్మదిగా ప్రపంచ సాహిత్య ప్రయాణం మొదలుపెట్టండి.
ఎంత అద్భుతమైన ప్రసంగం. మూసుకున్న తలుపుల్ని బలంగా తట్టి మేల్కొల్పుతున్న మహానుభావులు. మీకొకటి తెలియ జెప్పాలి. మీ స్వరం లో ఉండే ఒక గంభీరత, చెప్పే విధానం లో ఉండే సున్నిత ,సునిశిత ,స్వచ్ఛత ఉట్టిపడే ఒక్కో మాట చేతులు కట్టుకుని వినయాతి వినయంగా పాటించాలని అనిపిస్తుంది.
ఈ మధ్య నన్ను కాస్త దయతో చూసే ఒక చిన్న నాటి మిత్రుడు,ప్రముఖ రచయిత తోఅన్నాను. నువ్వు చాలా బాగా రాస్తావు. కానీ నేను శ్రీ చిన వీరభద్రుడు చెప్పేవి మాత్రమే వింటాను. నాలో ఏ లోపాలున్నా సరిదిద్దుకునే వారి రచనలకు, వారి ప్రసంగాలకు అమిత భక్తురాలిని. అలా అని నీ రచనలు బాగుండవు అని కాదు. నీ కథలు, నీ విశ్లేషణా పద్ధతులు నాకెంతో ఇష్టం. అన్నాను.
వెరీ గుడ్. ఉన్నది ఉన్నట్లు మాట్లాడగల మా సరోజ స్నేహం నాకు అపురూపం. నువ్వు చెప్పింది నిజం. శ్రీ వీరభద్రుడు ఎక్కడ? నేనెక్కడ? అన్నాడు. అతడి మాటలకి , స్నేహాన్ని కించిత్ సడలించని ఆ స్నేహానికి, మీ మీద అందరికి ఉండే చక్కని ప్రశంసలతో కూడిన నిజమైన నిజాయితీ కి నాకెంతో ఆనందం కలిగింది.
